It was with great sadness that we suddenly lost Michael L. Brown in February 2021. He was a native of Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Greenville and Bethel, North Carolina. He frequently reminisced on his beloved time playing baseball, chatting with is Uncle and former Principal of North Pitt High School, Reverend Ernest McNair, attending Governor’s School and winning Pitt County Teenager of the Year all while a student at North Pitt. He then attended North Carolina State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was a passionate electrical engineer in the DC Metropolitan area for over 25 years.
Tuition and fees associated with higher education can be a barrier for students desiring to advance their studies, especially for those from historically underrepresented groups. In honor of the late Michael L. Brown, the Brown family established this scholarship to alleviate tuition expenses for underrepresented students attending North Pitt High School who are pursuing two or four year degrees after they graduate. Our prayer is that this scholarship will inspire students to confidently create change in the world through their studies for many years to come.
